My son turned 18 last week and I am still reeling in shock that my precious, darling baby boy is now an adult. ❤️ Of course, he will always be my baby! On my Facebook post about his birthday, I noted that I tell him often that he has been my greatest teacher. And that is what I wanted to talk about today.
It’s so true, that our children ARE our greatest teachers. They start by teaching us what true unconditional love is and on the path to adulthood, we learn the tough way about what patience really is; because nobody can quite get under your skin like your child can. :-)
However, nobody can make it up like your child can either! Those beautiful little faces, big eyes, and warm hugs make up for all the difficult times and challenges.
The best part is that our children are the gift that keeps giving!
Just when we think we are ready to graduate from the School of Perpetual Parenthood, we learn of a new requirement for graduation. I’m telling you that nothing keeps you as humble as your child does, either. Your children excel at keeping your ego in check!
And just when you think you have mastered mindfulness: you’ve become an oasis of calm and tranquility and are no longer quick to rage. Along comes your teenager to prove how woefully mistaken you are as you go down in a blaze of zen glory (true story 🙋🏻♀️).
And so you gracefully accept that you will be an eternal student. But that is okay because if you aren’t learning, you aren’t growing, right?
